What happens during the visit

• The nurse checks the stoma site and the current tube.
• The tube is replaced with an appropriate device.
• Correct placement is confirmed before use.
• The site is secured and care advice given to the family.
• A written visit summary is left for the patient's own doctor.

Who needs this

People fed through a PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) or balloon-gastrostomy tube who need a routine replacement.

How often: Balloon-type gastrostomy tubes are typically changed every few months; timing is guided by the patient's doctor.
